Meet Our Amazing Team Members
Karen N Harmon, MS OTR/L
Karen Harmon is an occupational therapist with 24 years of experience working with ages 3-100+.
After her high school psychology class sparked an interest in learning how the brain works, Karen went on to receive a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology at Colorado State University. A passion grew from there to work with people using therapeutic activities to improve their lives. Becoming an occupational therapist was the prefect route to pursue her dreams. She graduated with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University in May of 1998.
Her career has been split between the rehab setting and the school setting, providing her with opportunities to work with ages 3-100+, and treat a wide variety of conditions that impact participation in the activities one does throughout the day.
In the school setting she was on the TBI team for 15 years and participated in the student intervention process regularly. As the co-author of two literacy grants, she became a trainer of teachers for the literacy intervention curriculum LANGUAGE! , and taught students how to use compensatory software (screen readers, speech recognition, etc.) while they were working on bringing their reading skills up to grade level.
The rehab setting provided her the opportunity to work with adults who had surgery, injuries, acute illnesses, strokes and other neurological conditions, to name a few.
In all settings, Karen has been able to bring her background in psychology into the treatment sessions to better connect with patients and address any mental health or social/emotional needs that may be impacting progress. She is thrilled to now be the owner, and one of the practitioners, of Three Pines Therapy and feels like this has been the most rewarding part of her career.
Michaela Cunningham, MS OTR/L
Michaela Cunningham is an occupational therapist with 8 years of experience.
Michaella graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelors of Arts in Biology in May 2007 and from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia in December 2012 with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy. She has worked in various settings throughout her occupational therapy career.
While in graduate school, Michaela had the opportunity to visit Taiwan during one of her clinical rotations. At that time, she discovered all of the many possibilities and avenues a career in occupational therapy could entail, one of which was related to mental health and sensory processing; she experienced a sensory room unique to any she’d seen before.
Throughout her years as an occupational therapist, Michaela dreamed of creating a sensory room with this in mind. She did not have the opportunity to do so until now. With the help and encouragement from Karen Harmon, OTR/L, Michaela finally had the ability to realize this dream. She is excited to share this space with the community and those who receive therapy services from Three Pines Therapy in Loveland, Colorado.
